Penetration Testing

Cross-disciplinary Connections

The penetration testing class that I took had many cross-disciplinary connections to other courses that I was taking. For example, in my computer networking course, we were learning about the different types of networks and how they are vulnerable to attack, and the penetration testing class gave me a deeper understanding of how to exploit these vulnerabilities. In this course, we were learning about the different types of attacks that hackers can launch, and the penetration testing class gave me the hands-on experience I needed to learn how to defend against these attacks.

Broader Applicability

The knowledge and skills that I learned in the penetration testing class have a wide range of applications outside of school. For example, I could use these skills to get a job as a penetration tester, a security analyst, or a cybersecurity consultant. I could also use these skills to help businesses and organizations improve their security posture.

Personal Life Connection

The penetration testing class has also had a positive impact on my personal life. I am now more aware of the security risks that I face online, and I am more careful about the information that I share online. I am also more confident in my ability to protect myself from cyberattacks.

Students as Learners

I learned a lot about myself as a learner in the penetration testing class. I learned that I am good at problem-solving and debugging. I also learned that I am good at learning new things, even if they are challenging. I am proud of the progress I made in the class, and I am excited to continue learning and growing as a penetration tester.

Here are some specific examples of how I applied the skills I learned in the penetration testing class to my other coursework and to my personal life:

In my computer networking course, I used the knowledge I gained from the penetration testing class to identify vulnerabilities in the network and develop mitigation strategies.

In my ethical hacking course, I used the tools and techniques I learned from the penetration testing class to launch attacks against a simulated target system.

In my personal life, I used the security knowledge I gained from the penetration testing class to improve the security of my home network and my personal devices.

I am grateful for the opportunity to have taken the penetration testing class. It has given me the skills and knowledge I need to be successful in my academic and professional careers. I am confident that these skills will be valuable to me in my future endeavors.
